I personally would love a version of emerald that makes the pyramid get continously harder by increasing the wild encounter rate every 7 battles. I like the idea that rom hacks can improve the game. If you've bought other pokemon products, then you've gotta figure you've given the cash cow that is pokemon enough.
The fact is that emerald wasn't appreciated by people buying it during it's lifetime (which has affected the features the include in future games) so there aren't enough copies to go around now. So I do see streaks on retail as much more impressive than streaks on emulator. But in the same vain it makes the frontier way easier as instead of focusing on improving your team you can just do five times as many attempts.
